History is the strangest thing
It repeats without an inkling
of just how tiresome it can be
when we read about the stupidity
Countries always want more resources
like food and water or, say, war horses
Take France and Germany for example
Over the Rhine land they fought and
trampled
Each other in attempts to get more
power
(But really, France? Your symbol's a
flower?)
World War I was an absolute disaster,
with
Trench warfare, tanks, and Belgium, but
afterwards
The Treaty of Versailles seemed to
bring peace
Nazism, however, was on the increase
And soon after that began World War II
In which Hitler rose up and killed lots
of Jews
And the Axis Powers lost quite
spectacularly
But they left many painful marks in our
books, historically
All the wars after were not much better
The drain on our economy leaving us
fettered
Politicians can't listen for shouting
In the meantime, our oceans are dying
Because of pollution and other mistakes
That people keep making 'cause it's our
nature to take
And take and take until there's nothing
left to give
Then we beg for one more day, just
one more day to live
In suffering, if we must, to atone for
our sins
But all we really want is to save our
own skins
Reading about all this; it just makes
me sad
That though we're so good, we're so
incredibly bad
To others, ourselves, we can't even say
A simple “Please” or a “Thank
you” and make somebody's day
Our lives are built on the deaths of so
many people
Yet we still shoot down others with
nary a scruple
We don't learn from our mistakes; we
don't care to fix this flaw
And one day soon, that indifference
will doom us all.
((And that's why history sucks.))
