Earworm

[This is my first real shot at more children oriented writing.  I was mostly inspired by Shel Silverstein.  He is my favorite of all time.]

Every little boy and girl
Everywhere, in the whole wide world
Has a little creature in their head
My daddy told me, “It’s an earworm,” he said
It’s pudgy and blue
and secretes sticky goo
It has four bulgy eyes
and it feeds on lies
It grows bigger and bigger
with every fib you hear
But it’s very hard to detect
this slug in your ear
So don’t listen to the lies
just open your eyes!
And maybe, just maybe, you’ll turn out okay
‘cause you stopped the earworm from gumming up your brain
